Spotify pays artists per stream, with rates varying between $0.003-$0.005 per stream depending on the listener's country, subscription type, and the artist's distributor agreement. Artists can also earn from merchandise and concert ticket sales linked on their profiles.

A stream is counted when a song is played for at least 30 seconds. Streams from free and premium accounts are both counted, though premium streams typically pay more per play.
